First Drive Impressions

Okay so this isn’t the first drive, but the first real drive.  I met up with my buddy and we went down 280 to meet up with his Dad who owns a GT40.  First thing you notice about this car is when it starts…  There is nothing like the sound of 1000 horsepower and this video is pretty low quality.  I will upload a better one soon.

The next thing you notice is the driveability of the car and of course the turbos.  Other than the force it takes to push in the dual disc clutch it is pretty easy going.  The turbos start winding at 2200 which gives you plenty of room for stoplight to stoplight and you get full power at 3200 rpm more about that later.  One thing that is pretty amazing is to hear those turbos winding up at 2200 rpm giving the engine a completely different sound than stock.

We took off down 19th avenue and headed for 280.  Definitely had some fun with the few cars that were out that day.  The new suspension is fantastic absorbing even big bumps easily but still coming back with nice stiffness in the corners.

As fast as this car will go it stops just as fast.  Thanks to the Brembo brakes which are very similar to the set that come on the Carrera GT.

So we made it down to Woodside and pulled into a gas station, of course no E85, but more on that later.  The GT40 pulls in and the first thing we notice is the cars almost silent entrance compared to the Viper.

I could keep telling the story with words, but pictures are so much better.  Unfortunately we didn’t catch any of what ensued on video, but I can assure you the GT40 owner was quite impressed!
